Review: BlazBlue

In this day and age the fighting genre is actually over crowded. In contrast to what the landscape looked like a few years ago today’s day and age is that of one with so many generic 2D fighters on the market it is hard to stand out. While the crown is still held by Street Fighter there are many other competitors out there trying their best to take the crown. We all know about Mortal Kombat, Tekken, and the Dead or Alive series. A little known company named Arc System Works created an astounding fighting game and sleeper hit named Guilty Gear.

Recently they have created another marvelous fighting game that is gunning after Capcom’s crown, this game is Blazblue. Seemingly easy to overlook, but richly enjoyable fantastic fighting game that may going togo down as the next torch carrier.

Gameplay – This game plays silky smooth. Everything responds to you. The controls are simple enough and moves come out when you want them to/ Honestly, there’s nothing more you can ask for. Even if this is too much or too intimidating for a player then there’s also an option to map almost all the specials moves to a single button making the most complex actions easier to perform. This game is appealing to both hardcore pro’s and green thumbed noobs alike who can both pick up this game and have fun and enjoy a match.

Graphics – WOW. Just WOW.This game looks BEAUTIFUL. The sprites look as if they are each hand drawn and put into the game.Every character just looks bright and vibrant with full 3D backgrounds rendered at all times. The attacks are bright as well. Whenever fire sparks you actually can see some of the embers fly off and see smoke move around. Lighting pulsates as characters perform special attacks on each and everything…. I mean EVERYTHING in this game is beautiful. The developers took their sweet time making this game and making sure everything came out right.

Story – Now this part of the game is where they lose you man. Each and every character is involved and intertwined with everything that it’d downright overwhelming and unnecessarily convulsed. The character “Rangna the Blood Edge” is a wanted criminal by some company that his brother “Jin” works for and the rest is all just absolute hogwash I’m going to break it down simple. Magic is bad. Machines are good. Some people use magic and other people use machine’s and they are at war with each other. The rest I see as unnecessary and mostly fluff.

Breakdown

Cons – Only12 characters. Seriously? The game has some moves that are easily used to spam so balance can sometimes go out the window… which is absolute bull. No unlockable characters, which is just kind of stupid in this day and age.

Pros – Looks sexy. Online play is fully customizable, fun, endless hours of replay value. Every character is unique and the moves are all cool.

Bottom line
A-
