Trailer: The Warriors Way

If it wasn’t for the TV spot I would have let this one go by the wayside. The Warrior’s Way is coming, and it’s coming out swinging! The imagery and action remind me of a mix of “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and “Hero” with a bit of Zack Snyder for good measure. I’m a sucker for karate flicks and have developed a mild interest in westerns thanks to the story that was given in the game Red Dead Redemption. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen “East meets West” in the way that “martial arts” meets “cowboy” as Hollywood has success with the forumula in the past with Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson in the successful Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights films, but this movie seems to have a lot less hijinx and comedy, and uses more action and guns. Awesome!

Press Release:

In an original, gorgeously realized journey into a mythical past, writer and director Sngmoo Lee seamlessly marries the cinematic traditions of East and West. Korean superstar Jang Dong Gun, Kate Bosworth, Danny Huston and Academy Award® winner Geoffrey Rush star in this epic story of revenge and redemption.  The Warrior’s Way is written and directed by Sngmoo Lee in his American feature film debut. It stars Jang Dong Gun (Friend, Taegukgi:The Brotherhood of War), Kate Bosworth (21, Superman Returns), Geoffrey Rush (Shine, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl), Danny Huston (The Conspirator, Robin Hood), Tony Cox (Bad Santa, Meet Monica Velour) and Ti Lung  (Frozen, Dynasty of Blood). The film is produced by Barrie M. Osborne (the Lord of the Rings franchise), Jooick Lee (Seven Swords) and Michael Peyser (Matilda, Hackers). The director of photography is Woo-hyung Kim (Late Autumn). Production designer is Dan Hennah (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans). Editor is Jonno-Woodford Robinson (King Kong). The film is written and directed by Sngmoo Lee, who I have no familiarity with whatsoever, but I’m absolutely willing to give the guy a shot after seeing the TV spot and trailer. The film stars Jang Dong-gun, Geoffrey Rush (Pirates of the Carribbean), Danny Huston, and Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns) and is coming this December 3rd.

What do you guys think of what they’ve shown so far? Comments are appreciated.
