Nintendo Launching App Store For DSi

Rumors regarding a DS app store have surfaced this week, following a secret conference held to discuss plans for a new DSi strategy. The 100 million plus sold handheld has achieved unparalleled success on its own merit but the Big N can’t ignore the rapidly growing Iphone/Touch user base encroaching into it’s portable gaming market share. To date, the iPhone/Touch combo has managed to sell 30 million units and exceed 800 million app downloads in a matter of two years.According to industry insiders, “trusted-sources” have indeed suggested a store for the DS could become a reality as early as this year. Analysts are lead to believe Nintendo is planning to revel a short-content application store of its own to showcase non-game content. In a time when it’s clear that the trend is in downloadable content this wouldn’t be far fetched guestamation. The DS already connects to kiosks, has the potential to interoperate with the Wii, and downloads demos and other DLC from stores, this seems like the next logical step for the undisputed king of portable gaming.
