Impressions: Gamer

I caught Gamer the other night. I dunno what to say about this movie other than it’s justifiably horrible. I get it though, I get what the director is trying to portray and even in some ways the movie is ‘Ok’. About half way through the movie I was waiting for it to ‘start’ and actually show there was a slightly compelling reason as to why this movie was even made, like… give me a story. So there it was finally and I get it. It’s a futuristic/biopic on society and gaming culture. Actually, it was probably the best example of Natal in the future, if it takes over, and also a frightening look at PlayStation Home in the future as well. Some of that shit on screen was already happening today.

The title is relatively misleading. Yes it’s about gaming, per say, but I think it was marketed incorrectly. Cut to the fact it was made by the guy who made Crank. Have you seen Crank? Have you seen Crank 2? Both of these movies are balls out zany. Entertaining enough, but crazy. Gamer is like that too. Same concept of craziness but in some ways either just weird as hell, a commentary on societal norms crossed with gaming culture, or the movie was just fucking retarded.

Again justifiably horrible because I could’ve done without even watching it… in my lifetime. A couple of ladies walked out early on in the film, probably about 20min, like I said I’m pretty sure like me they were waiting for the movie to actually start. It’s definitely not the worst movie I’ve ever seen, definitely not even the worst movie of the year. I put it above Harry Potter for sure, just because I have mad hate for that film. Miss March is still THE single worst movie of the entire year for me thus far.

Gamer is what it is. Watch it if you’re curious I guess. I did however enjoy the casting, it made fun of itself to some degree, was serious on some chances, was jovial and it was because of the casting I think. So it that stead it was ok. Still as a film, justifiably horrible.
