Incoming: Super Street Fighter 4 Costume Pack

I don’t like the idea of Super Street Fighter 4. Period.

I like the game well enough, but I hate the idea of its existence. The game is a remixed, refined, re-released version of Street Fighter 4, what’s not to like? The fact that the game wasn’t DLC is one reason, and the fact that the additions aren’t as re-defining as one would hope given the time between the release between the original Street Fighter 4 and the ‘Super’ edition. Don’t get me wrong, I knew the game was a cow waiting to be milked before its actual release but I had no way to foresee that another disc release was in the cards for the franchise.

It’s partially my own fault for setting expectations. I expected the game would release and change form and characteristics more similar to how Criterion Games handled Burnout Paradise DLC rather than what we actually received. A Character pack here, stages there, and maybe a redefining title update that changed everything further down the line. I wholly expected that SF4 would have a much longer life in my 360 than in actuality, but again, its my own fault for setting expectations. Instead I played the game for a few days as I attempted to unlock all the characters and costumes possible until I learned of a costume pack for the original SF4 that was small in file size but hefty in price. That one instant in time and action effectively retired Street Fighter 4 from my 360 to never return. I thought that was the end of the whole Street Fighter 4 fiasco until Super Street Fighter 4 was announced later on. You know what I did when I read the announcement online? Traded in my Street Fighter 4 for some store credit toward a better investment.

Why bring all of this up today? Well, Capcom decided to show off their new costume pack for Super Street Fighter 4. I have yet to comprehend the thought process behind wanting to buy cosmetic updates for a game I own. I mean, they’re not even redefining costumes. It would be one thing if they were holloween themed, or even mimicked characters from other Capcom franchises then I’d understand. Dress up Ryu as Megaman and Cammy as Tronne Bonne, tie it in to Megaman Legends 3 or something. Nope, none of that. Instead we get the following:

Sure, they are kinda cool and may even find a way into getting my money, but I’m still getting a bad case of déjà vu.
