Before Watching the Watchmen

I’ve been a little apprehensive about watching this Watchmen movie. The main reason is because I don’t know who the heck the watchmen are I’ve never, I’ve never read their graphic novels, I’m not really a huge fan of the characters they present.Visually the characters seem to be knockoffs of known existing major franchise superheroes. They have their own Electro or something, they have their own Superman, they have their own Batman.I’ve never really been a fan of these second string superheroes especially with a big budget comparable to a more recognizable franchise like Iron Man. It’s a matter that I don’t have confidence in these characters, and I don’t really have confidence in Zack Snyder as a director.Well not fully anyway. Zack might have impressed the hell out of me with his directional work filming 300.Alot of that enjoyment came with the visual style presented by Frank Miller. Frank’s artistic influence helped push the movie a long wayas far as enjoyment of that film and I’m still not certain that the magic is something that can be reproduced in this film.

Frank Miller had success with visual atmosphere before working with Snyder when making Sin City.Nosuch resource for Zack Snyder in this film. I’m a little apprehensive when adding these things up of if I will really enjoy whats in front of me. I’m not walking in this film expecting “The Dark Knight”, nor am I expecting comedy, nor am I expecting anything I’ve seen this year.Ifit seems like it’s more comparable to X-Men more than a anything.Hopefully this all turns out well and I eat my words.I’ve done a little bit of a test in that I held off viewing this movie until I read what the internets’ response was for to this film.

As most of you know there is a small debate as to whether this film can be enjoyed or notby the general audience. The debate is whether or not a comic book film can be taken seriously if used in the context of the source material with little to no alteration to storyline or characters. The source material in this case being a graphic novel is very, very comparable to a comic book and can easily be stereotyped as something for children. In fact I’ve heard reports that parents have actually been walking out of this file quite frequently with their children after finding something they didn’t expect with scenes of rape and violence. This is obviously not a film for children so I’m going to walk into this alittle bit more optimistic.Kind of curious/excited like when I saw the first Matrix film, but I will still hold reservation in the same way as I did when I first saw X-Men. I’ll also be posting my thoughts and feedback on the film after I finished viewing right here on the site
