Twilight: Impressions

I wanted to say a few good things about the movie that was released by the name of “Twilight”. I wanted to, but I can’t… because I believe this movie is absolutely and apologetically terrible. It was easily one of the worst films I may have ever seen in the past 10yrs. I don’t know why the heck so many people are infatuated with the on-screen romance of the main characters Edward and Bella. I watched the movie for the first time the other night on DVD… I really just have to, again, say how terrible it really is. I’m not really one to post my opinion on the site just to bash any particular film but there has to surely be some exceptions. I mean, we have standard round here. Never before have I seen a film given so much positive promotion, so much positive praise through word-of-mouth, I had to double check to verify that I watched the right movie!

Now this is a movie that I didn’t catch in theaters and, for one reason or another, waited for the DVD release. Nothing out of the ordinary, and can happen on occasion. In fact, I did the same thing with a little movie called “The Matrix”. When I saw The Matrix on DVD I was literally blown away with the actual product. I quickly became a fan of the franchise looking forward to the eventual sequels. This film will not go down in the same category as The Matrix.

The movie was easily one of the worst vampire films I’ve I ever seen (up there with Van Helsing!). Now don’t get me wrong, I understand that there’s a huge following in his film and franchise based on the books that were created prior to the film’s release. Now I’ve always been the type of person to believe that a movie needs to be able to stand on its own without any subsequent literature needed in order to understand and appreciate the film at all. In the same regard, I shouldn’t have to read a book about Hoth or Tattooine in order to enjoy a Star Wars flick. It should not, could not, possibly have any type of redemption to benefit from with the mentioned books because the film was just flat-out terrible.

Further…is it just me or did the story made no sense what so ever!?!?! This premise is so boring and stupid. Seriously, “I saw you across the lunchroom and fall maddeningly, psychotically in love with you”?! SERIOUSLY?! How dumb should I be before watching this thing?! Should Ipop a few “stupid audience” pills and try this again?! Insane. Now don’t get me wrong here.I’m sure people actually fall in love at first sight. As a hopeless romantic I certainly believe the stuff could happen. I don’t think it happens like this. I’d can’t possibly believethat movie producers, and the author for that matter, would expect the audience to be naïve enough to accept this bull. But then again the audience does accept it and are clamoring for further abuse from films like this in the future.

The fact that vampires avoid drinking human blood is one thing. I can get that. I saw Blade and I understand the premise of a Vampire that wants to avoid human blood. This film takes this idea and goes more than a little extreme. This is a story about vampires where not a single human, animal, or mammal for that matter gets bitten. I can understand if the good guys don’t bite humans but the bad guys too??? Seriously?!? Why not?!

The other thing that bothered me so much about this film was pacing of it. I believe the pacing was horrible. It was a huge buildup for some type of climax to happen throughout the film that never really happened! At some point I expected the family to see the human girl, freak out, and to start biting people left and right… but that never happened. I then expected the bad guys to ahead and pick up the slack. That never happened. I really don’t know what else to say other than the fact that I think this film is terrible. The love story is weak. There’s close to no action. The characters are boring. All the acting I saw in the film was Orlando Bloom caliber. I’m not looking forward to future installments and if I hear any one thing to be said about this movie in conversation I will be quick to point out my frustrations and disappointments with the film. Worst DVD I saw this year.
