Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Impressions

Flat out enjoying it! Same old smash and mash gameplay. I chose Wolverine based on healing factor, it really goes a loooong way. I mean when you don’t have to heal yourself… it’s pretty awesome. As per usual you have to unlock characters along the way and some characters are straight up DLC. I’m did some Juggernaut scam yesterday so hopefully I get the free DLC code for him otherwise its $1.99. But you know… and I hate Activision right now I still might end up buying some characters down the road… we’ll see though. I was buying LBP costumes till about 3 months ago. Anyway immediate complaint! I could not button map my controller scheme. I mean… wtf. This is 2009 right? However it was what it was and like my bro said who I played with “guess we’ll just have to adjust.”

Let’s just say I’m 2 hrs into the game… and the registration act story… has not even started yet (as far as I can tell)! I’m honestly waiting for the title to pop up like in The Departed. You’re already watching the film for 30 min and THEN the title hits and it’s like… the movie is just starting now?? It’s good, it tells me there is a decent amount of gameplay plus replay if you go pro or anti-registration once the time comes. The graphics are decent enough, a big step up from the previous game especially the environments. I like the aesthetic look of the menus… although navigating through them is crap. Looks relatively clean and nice but navigates for shit basically. They’ve restructured the leveling up, you don’t have as many powers anymore or things to level up I should say as well. Less grinding I guess. Your boost attributes go towards your entire team now instead of individually. I still don’t know if the extra point attributes in the game go towards the character picking it up or the entire team. All I know is to get XP you kill lots of guys. So that’s all I do. My bro handles all the fusion attacks since it benefits me less and I monitor health mainly his to heal him when necessary since Wolverine heals himself. Seriously we were fighting the first boss and I was caught getting stomped on but keep healing myself, pretty awesome stuff. Various difficulty modes, although one interesting thing is casual aka easy mode, you don’t die… ever. You simply get knocked out and get back up. However you don’t gain some of the leveling bonuses. Needless to say we went with the standard Normal difficulty.

Anyway I thought I didn’t have much to say about the game so far… guess not. Hoping to have this one beat over the weekend.
