Quick Thoughts: Marvel VS Capcom 3

This past weekend I had the pleasure of playing one of my guilty pleasures, Marvel VS Capcom 3. I was like a kid in the candy store as I stood around the booth and glanced at all the other players. It was bit crowded for my taste, but it was worth standing in line.

What I liked most from their booth was the mini-contest going on as everyone stood on this long line to play on the big screen with the winner lasting 5 rounds winning a Grand Prize! You had a few who were able to stick around after their first round, a few others who stayed on for about two to three turns, until someone else came and destroyed their streak in front of hundreds. The really good players were the ones who actually lasted in the game for all five rounds. The competitors that did not last 5 rounds received a poster and a magazine. The five killer winners won a tee-shirt, booklet, and poster in a bag. The idea of giving gifts to losers was actually thoughtful since they didn’t want everyone walking away feeling like a loser. Everyone who attended and played was a winner no matter how skillful you are in fighting games.

For those that actually didn’t want to stand on the long line for the big screen Capcom had set up eight to ten smaller additional screens and game setups so others could play with the ps3 controllers or the arcade controllers for kicks (I had the satisfaction of playing it with the arcade controllers). After a moment with this game old instincts came flying back to me instantly. The battle I had was pretty good! I killed all of my opponent’s fighters. I had two characters I’m very familiar along with one of the characters in the line-up that I was dying to try out. I wiped the floor with all of his people. I was even shocked how all the super and hyper combos come out with ease. I would destroy him if I didn’t leave myself open at the end. This became my downfall to why I lost, but I enjoyed every moment I had playing the game.

Now the actual graphics were reminiscent of Street-Fighter IV as well as the game play. The game play is slightly different tuned into one of Capcom’s versus games with a slight twist. It’s not hard to get a hang of the controllers, unless you are new to the Capcom vs. series but I caught on pretty quick. The games graphics, as I stated before, are like SF IV graphics and pretty much stands well.

I really appreciate the fact they actually put time and effort in developing this game. Previous entried in the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise reused character sprites from other Capcom fighting games!. They placed all the old sprites in with the new background graphics and thought no one would notice it?!You all know what I’m talking about! Have you noticed how out of place Morrigan would look beside Captain Commando in previous entries?! do I really need to point out more examples?!

Oh and let’s leave the best for last. The character lineup! Some of our favorites return like Spider-Man, Ryu, Chun-Li, Morrigan, Captain American, and Wolverine as well as  some brand spanking new characters for the lineup. Dante and Trish from Devil May Cry , Chris Redfield from Resident Evil, Deadpool, Super Skrull, and. Trust me they have a lot more new characters in the lineup as well some more familiar faces.

I’m telling you Capcom has put in a lot of effort when they were developing this game. I think they realize the mistakes they had made in the past and actually wanted to correct them with this new long awaited game, which doesn’t hit store till Spring of 2011. If you are like me “I CAN’T WAIT!!!”
