Green Lantern mini-preview

Thanks to the Movie Blog I found that EW has a 30 second mini video preview of the upcoming Green Lantern movie.

What is there to say? Well, one could make quite a few obvious observations. This is not the Hal Jordan we know from the comics. A few quick back handed comments out of Ryan Reynolds mouth and we find that this GL has a sense of humor. Not surprising as I’ve yet to see a comic book movie developed that has not taken liberties with the portrayal of the titular character. I’m honestly expecting a mix of Kyle Rayner and Hal Jordan’s comic book characteristics amalgamated into a Hal Jordan for film. Something the kids would like, which is fine by me.

I like the fluidity to the special effects and how they make the power from the ring, but I don’t like the lack of constructs. In the comics the Green Lanterns of the universe use their imagination to create these ‘constructs’ which are essentially objects, creatures, or whatever the GL’s can imagine into as mind controlled objects that they use while protecting the universe.

I’ve seen constructs range from Giant Mecha robots a-la- Gundam to small fly swatters (and big fly swatters too!). I hope to see more use of the power ring from Jordan in the film and really exploit the wonder of Hal Jordan’s imagination when using that ring rather than just using it as a over-empowered gun.
