Re-Cap: Castlevania

This is a good game. However that in itself is it’s problem. Remember when I said this game at moments felt like God of War, but never reached that pinnacle of being as good or better, but it would have moments. It’s like climbing a hill and you’re right at the top, just there, maybe 1-2 steps away but for the life of you, you can’t reach the top. Something always holds you back. Then there are moments where you see Shadow of Colossus but here you’re about 15-20 steps away from the top of the hill. Then you might see a bit of Devil May Cry, the game is fun but maybe you’re 4-5 steps away from the top of the hill. In all cases you can see the top, you want to reach it cause if you do you finally get to see the view from there. Remember when I talked about the art direction? It is indeed amazing. There are some really nice visual assets in this game. Concept art that really pulls through, but the graphics themselves aren’t perfect either. There are moments again where the game shines and there are moments where the level design keeps things incredibly average. Which is a damn shame.

Castlevania in itself is a good game, my brother and I aren’t quit done it yet. But we have 3 chapters left and the storyline has pulled us through. More than that, the character focus on the lead. You know who’s ideal it was to focus on the lead character and develop him more from a storyline perspective?  Hideo Kojima. It makes the game feel more worthwhile and playable. The music is fantastic in this game, the overall concept of it is really great but it always fails to hit that mark to push it over the edge.

I’m reserving final judgment until the game is beat but like I said before certain elements of this game have made it quite memorable.
