Spider-Man film cast takes shape

I may not show it much, but I was very very disappointed when Sam Raimi backed out of the proposed Spider-man 4. I don’t want to beat a dead horse too much, but Spider-man 3 was… a disappointment critically, but very very successful commercially. I wasn’t too fond of some of the ideas proposed for the 4th film that made their way online, but some were really good. Anne Hathaway as Felicia Hardy? Loved it. Bruce Campbell in a bigger role? Awesome. There were some questionable ideas, such as Felicia Hardy becoming some ‘Vulturess’. Whatever, I was curious enough to see Hathaway as a comic villain in full costume and all.  It couldn’t possibly be worse that Spider-man 3, right?

Well, we all know that never panned out and instead the series is getting a ‘reboot’ with Marc Webb at the helm. I have mixed feelings about the project as Spider-man is a character I hold very close to my heart. There were the rumors that Logan Lerman kid from Percy Jackson may step in as Peter Parker, and I tried to be optimistic but I really think that this new cast that they’ve been finalizing is a lot more exciting and actually refreshing:

Andrew Garfield – I know nothing about this guy. I haven’t seen a film of his at all but I plan on seeing the Social Network to try to get a handle on him. He seems to have the right look and I’m sure a dorky pair of glasses will help make a world of difference to help me believe in his portrayal of Peter Parker.

Emma Stone – I like Emma. She has the looks, especially with the blonde hair, and wholesome appearance to make most guys fall in love with her at first site which is exactly perfect if she’s going to be attracting the attention of a young Peter Parker. I actually prefer Gwen being the initial love interest over Mary Jane as it is closer to the story in the comic books and really appreciate that Kirsten won’t be screaming in another Spider-Man movie for help.

Chris Zylka – Who? the guy from Everybody Hates Chris, that’s who. Flash Thompson is Peter’s bully in high school and for some reason I get the impression I wouldn’t wanna be on the receiving end on pranks from this guy just from the look of him. He looks deceivingly nice.

Rhys Ifans – I’m not sure how, but I don’t think I’ve seen a film with this guy. Obviously this movie will change all that. My apprehension will be with his portrayal of Dr. Curt Connor’s and the Lizard. Marc Webb better have something good up his sleeve for this one…

Martin Sheen – Uncle Ben. This guy’s appearance gives the impression that he’s just overflowing with outrageously good life advice. I can’t wait for him to give the immortal “With Great Power…” line. I only wish we could somehow find a way to keep this guy in the films after the origin, but we all know how that will turn out…

Sally Field – At first I didn’t think she would be old enough to portray Aunt May. My first preference would have been Betty White to be honest. After looking at this picture and imagining some more hollywood makeup magic I wholeheartedly believe that she can play a strong Aunt May for this series reboot, but will definitely draw comparison’s to Rosemary Harris’ performance from the original trilogy who just hit home run’s left and right with her performances.

Campbell Scott – Another actor that I have no experience with. Richard Parker shouldn’t have a huge role in the film as he presumably dies while Peter is still an infant. I look forward to seeing how they incorporate Richard and Mary into the movie as they were agents of the top-secret espionage agency S.H.I.E.L.D. in the comics who died while hunting the Red Skull.

Julienne Nicholson – I love this casting. It leads me to believe that they may explore Richard and Mary a bit more than expected. She’s played a police office on TV’s Law & Order: Criminal Intent for enough time to be able to pull off a convincing agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Looking forward to this one.

Marc Webb – This guy directed a bunch of music videos for people like Maroon 5, Green Day, Weezer, and Miley Cyrus with his only feature film experience being “500 days of Summer” and somehow gets the key’s to Sony’s biggest and hottest film property in the company’s history. Either someone who makes decisions needs to take their meds, or this guy is a genius in disguise. I will kindly withold judgement until seeing this movie.I love Spider-man and hold the previous films dear and close to my heart. I really hope he does Spidey justice.

What do you guys think of the cast and crew? looking forward to seeing the new film in 3D?
