Over the past couple of years it has seem that television has become stupider and stupider. It has come to my attention that networks such as MTV; VH1; BET has given everyone and their mother a reality TV. Also you have shows like Big Brother; Amazing Race; Fear Factor; America Idol; The Appreciate and America’s Next Top Model came along. The whole concept of the show is everyone looking to either to win big and make a name in the entertainment industry. As you can see only very few of these people who won these shows are successful. I notice many of the ones who don’t win turn out more successful than the winners of these shows which seem bizarre, but hey that is show business.
My earliest experience with reality TV was in the early 90s. MTV back then had decent TV and actually showed music videos as other shows, but mainly focused on what it was known as Music Television. During that time they came up with a show called “The Real World” which was based on putting a group of young adults from different backgrounds of the world to live together under one roof. The idea was good and the shows had hits after hits, because the show was very genuine in my opinion during the 90s. I enjoyed The Real World for it was a very different new idea; everyone seems to be real, though you could tell the ones who acted phony just to build a name for themselves as to those that didn’t. Also the fights on the show were out this world. It was totally unscripted so you knew they were real. When the year 2000 approached the show became more and more scripted to me that I eventually stop watching the show all together. Some of the Real World stars did well. Just take a well loved unknown from a show with a huge fan based if they are marketable and turn them in a star. My only question where are most the ones who tried to be stars after the Real World now?
Later people who once had a success career ages ago started popping up on reality television shows. My favorite was The Surreal Life. I remember the show first started on the WB 11 than moved to VH1. The show in my opinion was a hit. It was crazy; you found out what has become of these stars of yesteryear that had had fame and fortune throughout the entertainment industry that now are dust in the wind. One of the people who made a name for himself once again was no other than Flavor Flav. The relationship between Brigitte Nielsen and him was undyingly funny as all heck. It was truly EBONY AND IROVY every time you saw those two together. Seeing how there fan base was huge and everyone wanted to know what became of their relationship after The Surreal Life. Thus came Strange Love and it didn’t get any better with this. You get to see the both of them make fools of themselves as well see how much Flav really loved this woman. Brigitte was so undeceive on the subject to be with Flav or this guy Mattias. In the end she went with Mattia. Flav begin heartbroken lead to him getting his own show called the Falvor of Love. This was a big joke none of these girls really loved him. I mean look at him; he is a middle aged still wears a wall clock around his neck and a Vikinge helmet like it’s the latest fashion. The insane thing is when all of the women on each season m tried so hard to prove how much they loved him. Each of the three seasons a different set of girls; comedy with New York from season 1 to 3 trying to win his heart which was always a epic final. From fights breaking out between her the other girls or just the other girls in general till one of the many females won. A few made a name for themselves after the Flavor of Love. New York who was the most notorious of them all landed her own show for a chance at love. Then it seems to become a never ending cycle of everyone getting a show about trying to find love. Many celebrities found this as a way to revive their career.
After the funny comes into play in the shows we question on how and why you have a career in Hollywood? Paris Hilton made it big when a sex of her leaked out. Everyone knew her and her sister Nicole as the Hilton socialite heirs who did drugs party and a whole lot more along with long time friend Nicole Richte as teenagers. Paris saw that her sex tape leaking out as a way to make a name for herself in the land of stars. The sad thing it actually worked which landed her and Richte with a show called The Simple Life. This show was a complete waste of space for my mind. All they did was go around USA making fun of the blue collar working class man/woman. This is where reality television gotten out of control giving people who with no talent a show. Paris is not the only one; Kim Kardashin who was once betties with Hilton had a tape leaked out and became famous the same way. In all honestly I can’t stand them both. Neither of you have talent; you sound dumb; can’t act worth a damn; bring out crappy clothing and cosmetic lines. Have no class yet everywhere I go I must see your face on every newsstand or TMZ type show or blog. Soon MTV started forcing more reality tv than music tv on the air. Where Laguna beach; The Hills came on the air. The Jersey Shore is a great example to show you can a bunch of clowns put them on television who have no real talents expect getting drunk; screw anything that walks ugly; fat or whatchacallit; party; stab each other in the back then kiss and make up. Seriously this show is a waste of space for my barin too. They are just the poor mans Paris and Kim! VH1 keeps putting on more and more reality tv shows. The shows have people I don’t care about; never heard of or someone who is just trying to have a career again. Basketball wives a show produced and funded by Shaunie O’Neal is another trashy show. She had to fund in the sense it’s another show on VH1 that is stupid and the title of the show is a contradiction with itself. The show is called Basketball Wives when no one on the show is a wife anymore with the expectation of one who is about to become an ex-wife?! All the woman are nothing more than ex-wives; ex-girl-friends or ex-fiancées of players well known; may know or don’t care about. Soon other shows like it have started popping up like Love and Hip-Hop. The Real Housewives are just an answer to bore housewives with money getting a show as well trying to make a point they are nothing like Desperate Housewives. Sadly they are and it kills me. It shows if you have the money and status to back you it can buy your way to fame. In which a lot of these people have done.
Television that was good is simply a thing of the past. All it has been replaced with is trash. I rather look at cartoons and old black and white movies or television shows from the past because at least I know it was decent. It doesn’t take a lot of effort for people to get anywhere in Hollywood. Sex sells and it everywhere you go. My question is can I please get a television as well. At least it will be entertaining as well uplifting minus the garbage and with a lesson behind each show. Please someone give me a show!!
