Impressions: The Expendables

What do you get when you gather a bunch of the top action stars from the 80’s and 90’s into one movie? It has something to do with blood, guns, women and tons of fun put neatly together in “The Expendables”.

I can honestly say I enjoyed the movie. The film was directed and written by Sylvester Stallone. You can tell it was a movie that he wrote due to the subject matter he is undoubtedly used to dealing with. Don’t get me wrong, I can say that having him direct this movie was brilliant move. But I just feel he would have had at least gotten someone to help him a little more with the story and writing. I mean it’s a simple movie on paper. Get a bunch of muscular men, some are bad guys other are good guys. The bad guys are doing illegal actions such as being behind a big drug cartel. Next, Get the guys blowing everything up everywhere to stop the big bad guys’ drug business.

When viewing this movie I couldn’t help but look at Stallone try his hardest to keep up with the rest of the boys in every action scene. I call a few of them like when he is running after an airplane as it was taking off shortly after a gun fight scene and they are escaping. I was just sitting there bursting out laughing wondering “When is Sly gonna get a cramp and his leg and it just give out on him?”. His 65 year old self and trying to jump on a plane…Mr. Stallone your old behind should have known better. Then he has another scene where he goes to rescue a girl, and we get to watch his old behind get the crap beat out of him. I seriously wondered if he wanted a disc on his back to get dislocated?!.

Another thing that was very misleading about this movie was the promotion they did for it. Bruce Willis was in one scene the entire film with Mr. Schwarzenegger. How in the hell you put these in only one scene but they’re used heavily in trailers and film posters… I was not upset by it just saying what a friggin bald face lie that was.

I can say if you enjoy big old school action movies with lots of explosions; kick- ass martial arts moves some story that is simple but still in good taste and watch as an old action star still running after planes and beating up bad guys proving to us all HE’S GOT ONE MORE LEFT IN HIM. Then you will enjoy The Expendables.
